Kimberly began her counseling experience and training at The Meadows in Wickenburg, AZ working with such impressive pioneers in the industry as Pia Mellody, Claudia Black, Shelly Uram MD, and Maureen Canning.
Kimberly gained additional expertise working at Childhelp Children’s Center in Phoenix, AZ where all her clients were children victims of sex crimes. She wrote her MA thesis on Trauma Focused CBT from the work at Childhelp. Childhelp has been used as a model nationally for how to intervene, interview, and heal children who have been exposed to family crime.
Kimberly’s personal life is stock full of experience that enhances her professional ability. One story that is profoundly impactful in how she works with families is that her own beautiful 20 year old daughter died after a brief illness. From her pain Kimberly founded a non-profit agency working with grieving families internationally. Sara’s Smile, Inc. lasted 12 years and she closed it just prior to coming to SRA.
Kimberly is adopted and has specific experience around locating and interacting with biological families. Kimberly advices her families at SRA to postpone that process until your child is of maturity and has good insight into how her body stores trauma and heals from trauma.
The therapeutic modalities that Kimberly uses most frequently include Post Induction Therapy, Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Grief Recovery Therapy, Rational Emotive Therapy, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, Transactional Analysis, Motivational Interviewing and Trauma Focused CBT.
Kimberly has been at SRA since May, 2010 and is considered a senior member of our Clinical team.
