Family Program and Workshops
My "meaningful" life as an adult began at Parent Challenge, my first SRA training. Considering all I have learned from the SRA staff and the SRA experience I would willingly go through the entire process again. What an incredible journey of self discovery....I hope it continues for the rest of my life.
-SRA Parent
At Spring Ridge Academy we know the single most important factor influencing student success is family involvement. Parents who decide to enroll their daughter at SRA are choosing a school and program they will be fully involved in. Through the family program we will support you in making decisions and changes that will positively guide your daughter and your family toward success.
The Family Program creates a significant and profound difference in strengthening personal development and family growth. The Family Program challenges the individual to look at past experiences, choices and patterns of thinking, feeling and behaving, not from a position of fault or blame, but for the purpose of learning. By exploring choices openly and accountably families learn from the past and are able to make new choices in the present.
Parent involvement is an essential part of the program. Through phone calls, visits, family therapy and the family workshop series we create opportunities that begin the process of restructuring and improving family relationships.
Parent and Family Workshops
During the Family Program parents will meet other families and discover a network of camaraderie and support.
Parent Challenge - an educational and experiential seminar designed for individuals to identify and understand the factors contributing to life outcomes and to provide an opportunity for effective change. Some of the topics addressed in the seminar include trust, accountability, risk-taking, communication skills, personal empowerment, and challenging and reframing beliefs, attitudes, and assumptions. Parents have the opportunity to connect with other parents to form valuable alliances.
Family Workshops - two seminars designed for parents and their daughters to explore what is working and what is not working in the family and to create effective change that enhances the quality of life in the family. Topics to be covered include: purpose and vision, creating agreement, communication skills, accountability, talking the same language, expectations, agreements, and structuring effective families. Within the Family Seminars attendees are introduced to a model of Proactive and Purposeful Parenting.
The purpose of Proactive and Purposeful Parenting as we define it at Spring Ridge Academy is: To create a safe, trustworthy and nurturing environment that promotes emotional, physical, mental, social and spiritual growth and connection and supports age appropriate developmental stages, individuation and self regulation.
There are many challenges raising a teenager in today’s culture. When parents make the decision to place their daughter at Spring Ridge Academy they have reached the point where they feel powerless and ill-equipped to safely and effectively parent their daughter through this stage of her adolescence. Even after experiencing success and growth at SRA many parents find themselves concerned about the future and once again competing with friends, boyfriends, cell phones, internet, IM, text messages, drugs, TV, magazines and even other parents for their daughter’s attention and respect. Through the model of Proactive and Purposeful Parenting it is possible to rebuild trust and balance within the family. Parents can effectively set structure and develop appropriate expectations for their kids while establishing connection and honest, caring relationships within the family. The Family Seminars set the foundation for establishing this style of functional parenting and set a tone for parents to once again be empowered to guide and nurture their family.
